My dad is the best! Look what he did!

So this morning before I went to school, I printed out the first four chapters of my book, all stapled together, minus the blog-stuff and the reddit stuff, just story....

I wouldn't dream of showing it to my current English teacher, but I planned to show it to a couple friends, and maybe my 11th grade English teacher. Just to garner some feedback from people I actually admired.

I had it in my hands when I left the house, but before I got to the sidewalk, I turned back around and crumpled it in our recycling bin.

...Because I had what I thought was revelation: my writing isn't bad. But it's also not great. As honestly as I can tell, it's probably between average and good... So what was the point?

Just a hobby? that's a little bleh.

If somebody is a great writer, they should write. But my writing isn't gonna change lives, so why bother. It's not publishable, it's not gonna make money. It's not gonna win awards or gain recognition.

So again, what would be the point of continuing the writing at all.

I gave up, threw it away, and went to wait for the bus.

BUT

When I got home, it wasn't in the bin anymore.. I found it smoothed out on the desk, with hand written comments from my dad.

And now I get the purpose for writing, at least for me... To make my dad proud.

I took pictures of the comments he left me, he didn't mark every page, but have a look:

I guess it's a parent's job to encourage their kids... But I can tell he meant it.

This made my YEAR!!!

I'm going to use his suggestion, and have Harold bring the "spear" to a museum. I guess I better figure out what it was doing there for the next chapter. LOL

This changes everything. I think now I will try posting something on r/DestructiveReaders.

I don't plan on dad every finding out about my blog or reddit either, but if those redditors can can help me write better, my dad will certainly see my writing!
