Status update- Watermelons and tomatoes are growing nicely!

Fair disclosure: We've been way to lax on the weeding, as you'll see in the pictures. Dad says when its this hot and this rainy we should've been weeding every day...

OOPS!

We missed like four days in a row- you probably saw my post about the road trip to Stonybrook, and you probably saw we picked a whole bunch of blackberries and made syrup...

But we also did a ton of work that I didn't have time to blog about.

The rain was so heavy it was flooding our basement, so we had to: clean the gutters so they'd stop overflowing, pump out the basement, dry a whole bunch of stuff that got water damaged, AND dig a ditch so we could install a drainage pipe so our front walkway would stop puddling up... I shit you not the puddles were higher than our ankles on more than one occasion.

Unfortunately I did not get pictures of any of these tasks, so you'll just have to take my word for it. or look at the state of the garden as evidence enough:

They are already kind of big, once they are ripe they are going to be huge!
TOMATOES!
showing pumpkin foliage with leaves and flowers, crowded against three or four different types of weeds, all aggressively populating the growing area
Pumpkins locked in a deadly battle with droves of weeds,
both struggling for nutrients, water, sunlight, and ultimately LIFE.

I love raw tomatoes, and I also love fried green tomatoes...
Dad said he wants these ones to ripen  up fully as he intends to
make his own sauce this year!

round, green, beautiful
The watermelons have fruit on them!
We tore up all the weeds so they'd be able to grow a bit better.

the watermelon has started producing baby fruits! So exciting
Another view of the watermelon because its so damn exciting!!

The tomato shot right up, and started putting out fruits! can't wait till they are ripe!
The tomato plant is huge! We're gonna get
handfuls of tomatoes off of this thing!
