And warm enough to start working on the garden...
First we raked out all the leaves, pumpkin vines, and other debris.
Then we began to dig out the weeds that had already sprouted up, and threw them all in a landscaping bucket.
Almost full and we've barely begun... |
... Dad's method is pretty good because he can move the bucket to be in the sun, he can stir up the compost just by putting on a lid, tipping it over and rolling it... I can't do that with the animals I hid, for obvious reasons, but I wish I could. It would make my job easier. Now they've thawed out I'm gonna have to "go for a walk" and stir them up myself. I don't mind the material but I really hate flies and I know I'm gonna get swarmed while rotating my secret compost.
Oh well. Anyway:
We've got more work to do tomorrow. Tilling the garden, and adding store bought dirt... Hopefully we'll also set up the hav-a-hart.
Dad says we'll have the first seeds in the dirt by the end of the week.
One other thing I almost forgot!
Do you guys remember last November, when the snow came down? I made a post about the one crop that might survive the winter... WELL, it pulled through!
I can't believe we found stuff that actually overwintered!!!
Thyme is one of the greatest herbs, and it's pretty cool that before we even plant this years crop, we'll already be able to get fresh herbs from the garden!
Granted, the little patch of thyme is really choked with weeds, so we're gonna have to do some serious work cleaning that up.... Otherwise it might not survive the spring... But that's what it's all about!
Thanks for reading! PS, to all my peeps waiting for Harold and Emily's story... Sorry I've kept you waiting. I've been in a funk.
Now that the garden is finally moving again, you can expect an update here within a week!
